How We Work

Accurate Counts, Reported the Same Day

We use EPOS barcode scanners to capture stock quickly and accurately, and enter lines manually where stock is not barcoded. Everything is counted at retail, then calculated back to cost using trade-recognised margins.

You receive a full summary of cost and retail value on the day of the count, broken down by category, in a format your accountant can work with directly. Where a business is changing hands, that figure is available in time to complete.

Stocktaking: Common Questions

What does a stocktaker do?

A stocktaker counts and values the stock held by a business, independently of the owner. The result is an accurate stock-in-hand figure used for year end accounts, for identifying losses, or for valuing stock when a business changes hands.

How much does a stocktake cost?

Cost depends on the number of distinct lines carried and the type of premises, rather than floor area alone. We quote a fixed price in advance with no hidden extras, so you know the figure before we attend.

How long does a stocktake take?

A typical convenience store or off licence takes three to five hours. Larger retail premises and warehouses take longer, and we scale the team accordingly. We confirm an expected duration when we quote.

Do you provide the report on the same day?

Yes. Reports are produced on the day of the count as standard, including a full summary of cost and retail values. For business transfers this matters, because the figure is often needed to complete.

Do I need an independent stocktaker?

There is no legal requirement to use one, but an independent count carries far more weight with accountants, HMRC and the other party in a business sale, because the figures are evidenced and impartial.
